A strange town surrounded by four gigantic white marble walls, and covered by a cloudy, rose-tinted sky. The landscape and buildings are well-cared for, and food and supplies are plentiful. But the only inhabitants are people of a variety of other worlds. It seems everyone residing in Elysian City simply appeared there at random.

No one knows how they ended up here, but everyone knows there is no way to leave. The gates refuse to open to even the strongest muscle or magic, and the walls do not seem to end. What could be going on in this city? It seems that only time will tell.

'A long day' didn't even BEGIN to describe it. In fact, Colonel Roy Mustang was pretty sure that he'd had more happen in the past day... two? Was it three now? Than he'd had in any given month back in Amestris. So when, after burning countless zombies (because there was no better way to describe them), he found a bar, there was no doubt that he was going to go inside.

Of course, drinking was a bad idea. Roy knew that. He also knew that one drink wouldn't hurt, and he had no one around to tell him he shouldn't. So, he helped himself to a shot of something only mildly strong and rested his arms on the counter, feeling quite exhausted. He'd barely gotten any sleep, and while most injuries seemed pretty much taken care of, his jacket still smelled like blood, and he really wanted somewhere to clean up.

What he DIDN'T want was a sudden earthquake in a room full of glass bottles. The normal grim line of a pout spread across the Colonel's face as he steadied himself against the bar, various jars and bottles rattling off their shelves and crashing to the ground. The first tremor stopped, and immediately he got to his feet and made his way to the door as another one started. Dust rained down from the ceiling, and with a great crash, the shelving and wall it was attached to fell forward against the bar, right where Mustang had been.

While there was no one in the room to see it, Roy kept his face lacking in too much surprise, and he pushed the doors open, getting himself out of the building before anything worse happened. Eventually, the ground stopped shaking, and a few moments after that, Roy was able to get his heart back to beating a normal rhythm.

Looking particularly put out, Roy dusted off his coat and cleared his throat, dark eyes scanning the surrounding area. It didn't seem like there was anyone there, but after a disaster like that, he was sure he'd see someone soon. Trees had fallen over, and there was a very visible crack in the far side of the building he'd just exited. "Well then... What else am I supposed to expect around here?" he asked no one in particular.

"Heh heh..." A strange and somewhat spooky laughter came from somewhere above. "Oh, there's a lot more fun coming..." Seated seemingly in midair, just above the doorway of the entrance, a young blond haired boy regarded the Colonel with an amused smile. "You haven't had enough already, have you Colonel Mustang?"

Bedlam might not have been here long, but it was greatly amusing to realize how many people were completely on edge. And yet none of them had a clue as to what was going on. However the boy thought it might be a bit more fun to let a few others in on Eris's master plan...or really what he was beginning to make into his own plan. Nabbing one of the Keys stumbling around this place would be almost effortless. Boring.

And he did not want things to be boring.

So he thought that maybe nudging some of these goody-goodies into doing some of his dirty work would wind up far more entertaining. "You do seem a little stressed out, huh?" The teenager cocked his head and smirked, placing a hand on his hip. "Bet you'd like to get outta this place...'course who doesn't, right? Weird things have been happening here...or so I've heard."

Roy's frown deepened when he heard a laugh sound from behind. The man knew full well that there hadn't been anything behind him before that, and he was pretty sure that anyone sneaking up, he'd have heard. That would have to mean the voice was disembodied, or it'd appeared out of nowhere. Neither notion brought soothing thoughts, but the Colonel knew he'd have to deal with it one way or another. It was obvious he was the one being addressed.

Mustang looked over his shoulder, raising a thin eyebrow at the young person floating in the air above the doorway. He looked a lot like Edward, actually, or at least was about the same age. Honestly, the only strange thing about him was how he was just... floating. Roy looked less than impressed and crossed his arms, frowning deeply up at the child. "Quite the contrary. I was just hoping for a little more excitement. There's nothing worse than having nothing to do." There was a level of sarcasm there, but even so, Roy was pretty sure that mountains of paperwork were worse than this place.

A little smirk slowly drew across the Colonel's face. This kid... There was something about him. And it wasn't just that he was defying the laws of gravity. He had a feeling that the child was powerful... But had no fear for his life at the moment. No, he wasn't going to be hurt, or even attacked. Not yet, anyway. "A little stress never kept me down for long," Roy said. "And you're right. I want to get out of here, but unless you give me that option, I'm not to sure I'm willing to continue this conversation.

"Now, how about you stop hovering in the air and skirting what it is you actually want to tell me?" Roy waggled a gloved finger at Bedlam, then pointed towards the ground. "And it's only fair that if you know who I am, I should know who you are. Until we're on even ground, you run the risk of me leaving."

Jackpot. It seemed he'd picked out the perfect person- at least to bother for a while...He would see if he could get any farther. At least the man was somewhat amusing. "I would think a little more stress, Colonel, and you might end up a pile of ashes like the other folks that run into you..." The teenager vanished for a moment, reappearing on the ground in a confident pose, a wicked little smile on his face.

"Leaving?" Bedlam laughed. "Ha, yeah right. Just where do you think you can go?" He shrugged and looked thoughtful for a moment, "Feel free to wander off if you want, but we both know you really can't get very far in this place. Ya must need some kinda...Key, or something, to get out..."

He trailed off for a few moments and looked for any sort of reaction from the man. "You can call me Bedlam," The teen continued at last with a gesture toward himself. "And as of now I'm the guy runnin' this place. So if you do wanna get out of here, you gotta work with me..."

"I'm not so sure about that," Mustang said lightly. He'd been through far worse than this strange place. Much, much worse. Other than poor, poor Rika... No. Don't think about that. If that's what this child had been referring to... No, he wouldn't have known, would he? Just how powerful was this little brat? Roy regarded Bedlam evenly. The boy was smug... Much like a certain Alchemist he knew. Well, well well... This was something Roy knew very well how to handle.

"Yes, leaving." Wait. A Key? Hmm. Roy closed his eyes and gave a bit of a sigh, the tiniest of smiles appearing on his face. He clasped his hands behind his back and looked closely at Bedlam, as if trying to figure him out just by looking at him. Oh yes, he knew something, and he was just dying to let it out... But if he did, that'd ruin the little game that the Colonel was pretty sure was being played here. Alright. He could join in on the fun.

"Bedlam." Roy tried out the name. Strange. Much like this damn city. "Alright, Bedlam, I'm listening. You've piqued my interest." He strode forward, walking around the younger boy, a rather guarded look on his face. He wondered just how much he could get out of Bedlam before having to offer anything himself. This time, Roy was ready to play some games. "If you're running the place," he started slowly, pausing to look at Bedlam. "Then why is it that you need my help? You're not trapped here too, are you? I have to say, that's pretty pathetic if you can't even get out of your own little game of cat and mouse." He smirked.

"So why don't we try and be a little more clear, hmm?" That smug smile grew. "I don't like working with people I don't know."

((Haha shor tpost is short... BUT THAT'S OKAY. We are PLOTTING. OHOHOHOHO.))

Bedlam's smile faltered for an instant, maybe not even long enough for Roy to notice. Maybe this would be a little more difficult than he suspected...he didn't expect the man to be all that smart. "Hmph," He said coolly with a wave of his hand. "I can come and go whenever I want, nimrod. And I don't neeeeed your help...I'm just trying to make things a little more interesting for everybody. If I wanted, this whole game could be over in an instant, Like this..."

The boy snapped his fingers and somewhere behind them a rather large tree suddenly fell, the very top of it landing across the road. It was possible that the effects of the earlier earthquake had made it fall, but it would be easy to see from the blond's expression that he was taking the credit for it. He moved a couple of steps closer. "Besides, if you ever wanna get out of here, you might wanna stop with the backtalk."

He tilted his head and studied Roy for a moment longer. "You need a Key to get out of here...like I said," He started, careful not to give too much away. "Or rather, you need to get a Key or two for me, and then maybe I'll let you leave. You seem like a pretty strong guy, so you shouldn't have any trouble...Interested in hearing more?"

(( Lawl omg, this has become like the longest thread in the past year! XD; ))

"And if you expect me to work with you, then calling me names won't get you very far," Roy snapped back, though his face remained cool. The more this kid talked, the more he was reminded of Edward. Cocky, sure of himself, and far too young to be either. Not that the Colonel had much room to talk - he was hated by a good portion of the military for being in such a ranking position, despite his young age.

When the tree hit the ground, Roy glanced over it, obviously unimpressed. "If you know me as well as you seem to, you know that a simple snap of the fingers, even for me, would result in something far more worth looking at, and yes, fearing." Mustang then snapped his fingers, much like Bedlam had done, and the tree erupted into flames. "Making things interesting, Bedlam, isn't what I'm worried about. If you're simply here to make us run in circles for no good reason, then I think I'd rather take my chances on my own."

He listened to Bedlam's proposal though, eyes narrowed into a thoughtful expression. His mouth formed itself into that thoughtful frown he always seemed to wear. "Finding a couple of keys?" That was rather strange, wasn't it? Roy put a hand to his chin, cupping it thoughtfully as his dark eyes drifted towards the now smoldering tree. He did indeed want to get out, but at what cost? The person standing in front of him was no mere child - he had power. And Roy knew all too well that playing with fire eventually got you burned.

But, for the time being, it seemed beneficial to go with Bedlam's game. Not necessarily to find a way out, but moreso to find out what was going on. Knowledge, Roy knew, was more powerful than most everything else. He knew how important plans and thinking out processes were. The more he knew about this place, the better he'd be able to fight against it. And if Bedlam was offering that... Who we he to turn it down?

"...Alright, you have my attention. Just what is it you need from me then?"

So he didn't like the name calling, huh? Bedlam paused to consider a few more for a moment before deciding it would be a waste of time, and quickly get boring to keep up with taunting. He would have to move on soon with other preparations anyway. He glanced at the fallen tree as it caught fire and half smiled, apparently somewhat impressed.

"Whoa-ho, that was pretty cool, Sparky, for a guy with no magic," He looked back to Roy with a devious expression. "You should be able to handle this job, no problem."

Now he had to consider just how much to let the man know...or how to get him to track down the Keys...without exactly knowing what he was doing. If he knew everything, he would certainly change his mind. It wouldn't be too hard.

"There's a few of these Keys in the city..." He started with a wave of his hand. Bedlam wasn't exactly sure himself...the stupid things were tricky, after all. "They're called Keys of Chaos 'cause...well, I guess that's pretty much self explanatory." He paused. "If one of 'em is taken out of here, it's powerful enough to destroy like, the whole multi-verse. I d'no about you, but I kinda like existing, so I'd rather that not happen."

His smug expression still unchanging, he cast a quick glance at the Colonel to see if he was buying the story. It wasn't entirely true...and he had left out a few key details, but nothing terribly crippling. Besides, things would be more fun this way.

"And just to show you I'm a nice guy..." He went on. As the boy spoke Roy's white gloves momentarily gave off a soft purple glow, then returned to normal. "From now on as long as you're wearing those gloves, you'll be able to spot the Keys." He gave a short laugh, "They'll totally stand out like vampires in bad movies..." Quickly he paused, realizing the older man wouldn't get the reference. "The Keys'll glow as long as you keep your gloves on, so you'll be able to spot them easier. I can even give you a place to start. You should ask the blond kid in the red coat you were with a couple days ago. Even if he's not the same kid you know, he still might know something..."

And there Bedlam stopped. If he was playing his cards right, and he hoped he'd done so this time, he would send the Colonel heading right for one of the Keys.

"...Sparky?" Roy frowned. No. Ohhhh no. He was NOT going to be dubbed 'Sparky' by some idiot kid with too much power. No way in hell. "That's going to end right now, kid." And he looked like he meant it. Whether or not Bedlam would comply, however, was another story entirely. Roy hoped he would. He had a feeling that if the boy disagreed, there wasn't much that he would be able to do about it. Something about the boy screamed 'unnatural,' much like most of the people he'd met in this hell hole.

Still though, he listened to what Bedlam had to say, and it made sense. Well, sort of. Some mystical Keys that could generate chaos at a thought? If nothing else, they sounded really dangerous. Perhaps he could gather them... But not necessarily give them to Bedlam. That'd at least buy him some time to figure out more what was going on.

It seemed that he was rather convinced either way, to at least temporarily help. The moment, though, that his gloves seemed to glow, he was tempted to change his mind. There was a lot of power behind the symbol sewn in, a power that Roy knew well. The last thing he wanted was for that to be altered by some strange magic that Bedlam had. He narrowed his eyes, "What did you do?" He knew that, yes, yes, these would help him find the Keys... But that's not what the man meant. He wanted to know what had been done to his gloves. Without those, as one Riza Hawkeye was keen on saying, he was useless.

"The Fullmetal brat?" He said, not quite sure he liked the fact that Bedlam knew about Ed. "And what do you mean, he's not the same kid I know?" The more Roy talked to this guy, the more the Colonel was sure that he neither liked, nor trusted him. Mustang was going to be careful. He had to be. After the events that had transpired (namely Rika), Roy was going to be educated on things before he jumped into them. No more needless killing of children.

And finally, "If you know of him, where is he?" Roy tugged on the end of his gloves and straightened out his shoulders. It looked like he was ready to comply.

Note to self, Bedlam thought as his face broke into a wide, amused grin. He didn't repeat the nickname he'd just invented, but he made a mental note to use it later, only because the man's reaction had been that funny. "Heh," He said with a nonchalant shrug. "Whatever you say."

"Your gloves are fine." The boy went on in a rather bored tone, rolling his eyes. "They'll still work the way they always have. You just get an added bonus...a jump on everybody else. You'll be able to spot a Key of Chaos while you're wearing them. I haven't done anything else..." He trailed off and considered adding on a 'yet' to the end. If things didn't work out to his advantage, he could always tweak this or that. But if necessary, that would happen later.

"Yeah, that's the guy," Bedlam nodded as Roy mentioned Ed...sort of. "Don't you think it's kind of weird? I mean, he looks like the guy you know, but he doesn't remember some things that you do, right? Like your friend who died, or...well, there's more. You get what I'm saying, right? You don't have to think about it too hard, y'know? Or were you just starting to assume it was you that's the crazy one? I can't exactly tell you where to find him right now...but he's bound to be somewhere in this town..." He trailed off again and glanced down one of the roads for a moment, then peered back at Roy, curious to see if he agreed, or even if he was considering to.

(( Blegh...after hours of work...this sucks. XD; ))

"Good." Roy had a feeling he'd hear that name again.

He didn't really believe the child when he said the gloves were fine, but was above doing a test right in front of him. No, Roy'd wait. Maybe... Maybe they'd come in handy with this 'power' of sorts. Only time would tell. "Alright," He said simply, eyeing Bedlam with a scrutinizing look. He couldn't quite figure the kid out, and that scared him. And the way he'd said he hadn't done anything else made the Colonel unsure. Unfortunately, he'd have to settle with it for the time being.

It was also unsettling just how much Bedlam seemed to know about Mustang. Despite the fact that Bedlam was RIGHT, Roy refused to comment on the situation. Edward HAD said some strange things, and while he wasn't keen on being in the child's presence, he'd been rather hurt when Ed had no idea that Roy had nearly died to save Havoc, and in retribution killed Lust over and over and over until she couldn't come back.

In the days he'd been there, there had indeed been a few times when he'd wondered how stable he was mentally. The lack of sense of time, the emptiness... The size of the place was maddening. No one stuck together, and everyone was just as scared and confused as everyone else. Bedlam had hit the nail on the head. Roy refused to admit that.

Instead, he cleared his throat and clasped his hands behind his back. "Alright. Then I'll find Edward. We'll see what this is about." He paused, pointing a finger at Bedlam, "But if I smell any tricks, I'm finished. And when this little game's over, If you've ended up on the side opposite of me, you'd best run. Run fast and hard, because I WILL come for you." And that dangerous look in Roy's eyes said far more than his words could.

He might have put on that he hated that little alchemist, but deep down, he cared for the boy, and was willing to do nigh anything to keep him safe... TO keep him working on that dream of his and his brother's. No, he wouldn't let anything happen, real Ed or no.

This was getting easier and easier. Any more and this might start to get boring. Though he was pretty sure that once the Colonel did manage to locate Ed, things would very quickly turn interesting again. Particularly if the man realized that Ed wasn't carrying a literal Key...he was one of them.

"No tricks, Colonel..." Bedlam said with an unreadable smile as he held up one hand. "I promise." He folded his arms and his smile grew a little. The Colonel's threat made him want to laugh out loud. He knew quite well that the man wouldn't be able to lay a finger on him, and he was pretty certain that Roy knew that too. "And don't worry, I'll be the one checking up on you later."

With that , the young boy turned and started to walk away. "Oh...and feel free to tell anybody else you bump into about this...Letting even one of the Keys escape could be really dangerous for any of the universes out there. Heh, well, see ya later..."

As he walked away Bedlam slowly disappeared from sight and finally was gone.

"...Sparky."

"Good," Roy said simply, his frown quite sternly etched into his face. "I look forward to it." THat was a bit of a lie. He didn't want this child checking in on him at all, but if it was going to happen, he'd much rather be aware of it.

"I'll spread the word," he muttered, not quite sure if he was willing to or not. He would have to see how things went.

He took a deep breath though his nose, lips pursed, and started down the street, fists clutched angrily at his side.
