A strange town surrounded by four gigantic white marble walls, and covered by a cloudy, rose-tinted sky. The landscape and buildings are well-cared for, and food and supplies are plentiful. But the only inhabitants are people of a variety of other worlds. It seems everyone residing in Elysian City simply appeared there at random.

No one knows how they ended up here, but everyone knows there is no way to leave. The gates refuse to open to even the strongest muscle or magic, and the walls do not seem to end. What could be going on in this city? It seems that only time will tell.

Welcome to Elysian City...enjoy your stay.

 Too much walking
« Thread Started on Jul 27, 2008, 6:25pm »

Nearly two days since his confusing arrival to this strange city, Bruce Wayne was beginning to tire. It worried him slightly that he had not had his prescribed medication in that amount of time (could explain that constant burning in his chest) but worried him more so that there had been no communication between him and his young ward. The former Dark Knight had left Terry on occasions before, but not without strict instruction.

This most certainly did not count as the "norm".

Now something else was urgent on the billionaire's quest. The former recluse's closest companion was beginning to hunger and though Wayne was never in danger among his canine companion, it did cause Ace to be somewhat snappish with others. That just wouldn't do.

Hungrily, Ace nuzzled his nose against the newest building's doors, sniffing feverishly at the blatant aromas surfacing from within. Bruce, of course, pressed the doors the rest of the way in, for even he could tell that there was a thick scent of food within the building.

As they came in, Wayne was satisfied with motioning to the obedient pincher. "Bonapateit," he said smirking to his friend and took satisfaction in watching the dog's tail wag before it rushed toward the smoked hams almost magically available.

Looking wearily around, Wayne sighed before resting at a nearby seat and watching both his dog and the door. For now, it seemed, he was alone...

But not for long. There was a rustling sound nearby, and through the door popped the head of a child. A black-haired child, Chinese in descent, with big brown eyes and a round, childish face. Her stomach was rumbling - she hadn't had a chance to eat dinner before homework, which came before food or training - and this place, humble as it may appear, smelled like food. She'd gotten to be quite good at scavenging in the two years she'd spent on the streets of old Gotham, and truth be told? It had often helped her scrounge up food in Wayne Manor after her adoption.

The old man was a great guy and all, but he really needed to grocery shop more often.

So it came to pass that the next person to enter the building was the slight Zoe Hu, still dressed in her jumper, blouse, knee socks, and gym shoes. She slipped inside, looking considerably startled at the sight of her foster "father" (grandfather, more like it, she often thought) and ever-present guard dog. "Bruce?" she questioned, expression deceptively angelic. "Bruce! Ace!"

Finally, she smiled, trotting the rest of the way in. Save for her long, parted bangs, her short black hair was tied back in two puffy pigtails... indicative that she hadn't had a chance to go down and do any training in the Cave at the time she'd been brought here. "Where are we?!" she demanded, though she continued to attempt to sound as perfectly innocent as possible. "I was working on my math and was coming to ask Terry if he could help me and... and I was here!"

Okay, so she was actually going to sneak a snack before dinner. But she wasn't going to admit that, now, was she?

((Haha okay, so I THINK the plan was to have Bruce and Terry finally meet up... If that wasn't the plan, well... haha, I can change this. But yeah. TALLY HO?

Hahaha agh, Jai, you posted before me! :o *edits things*))

But being alone for a while wasn't a luxury the old man was going to much longer call his own. Despite that, the company he was about to have would be a relief to both the newcomer, and the elderly billionaire alike. Why? Because one (soon to be very thankful) Terry McGinnis was about to drop in on he and Ace.

The boy had almost immediately ditched that strange Danny kid. The boy claimed he was able to take care of himself, and after a few more hours (or what he assumed were hours) with him, Terry was willing to just let him go off on his own, whether or not it was a safe thing to do. But, Danny's insisting he could take care of himself, and the fact the halfa had pretty much wanted to separate in the first place was enough reason for Terry to let him go. As for Indiana and the rather pretty blonde girl... He wasn't too sure. Sometime along their traveling, they'd gotten separated ((lulz, way to come up with something AWESOME, Ara.)), and while he worried about them, it was more important to worry about his own safety - and finding someone he knew. Terry might have been a loner, but being without Bruce for as long as he had made him nervous.

Not to mention, he really was starting to get tired of the suit. Well, more specifically, the mask. Now, don't get it wrong... He loved being the Batman, but three days of flying, walking, SLEEPING in it was just tiring. Especially the sleeping part - he hadn't gotten much, for fear of someone finding him and removing his mask. He'd already seen the trouble someone knowing his face could cause.

And so, he'd managed to find some alone time again, and with said time, had gone searching for the one building he'd found a while ago - the building with all the food. The first time he'd entered it, it had been empty, and it didn't look like there was any reason NOT to take something from there. Of course, if someone DID own the place, he'd be sure to pay them back... By mooching some creds off Bruce, if he ever found him.

So, with a little flip in the air as he killed his foot-jets, Terry landed lightly in front of the door, folding his wings back down. Cautiously, he peered inside, the suit helping his eyes quickly adjust to the change in light. The boy's eyes widened immensely when he saw a certain someone sitting at a table, while another one of the furrier variety was feasting on some ham not too far off. Stepping fully into the doorway, the very shocked looking Terry said, "Bruce?"

But then another sight caught his eye, and he had to hold back a groan. It wasn't that he didn't like Zoe... He loved the little kid... However, he was at the end of his nerves already, hungry, probably smelly (showers seemed scarce in this place), and very, very tired. The last thing he needed was an over-energetic pre-teen to inevitably give him a tackle-hug hello.

So, he added, "Oh, and Zoe! Imagine that."

((Hazaa! A reunion!))

Upon raising a brow at Ace as the canine reared his head and faced the door, alerted by some new presence, Wayne had not waited long to turn as well. However, instead of becoming confused or annoyed by his new company, the billionaire was at last pleasantly surprised to find his adopted daughter (or more conceivable, "granddaughter") and newest young ward in his presence.

It was a comfort to not only find young Zoe here and safe but the retired vigilante had to admit, having human company had slightly grown on him due to its specific availability to him since Terry's raid of the Bat Cave.

"What a grand surprise," Bruce said with his regular smirk before rubbing his chin. Again with the strange and unexpected arrivals to this city. Something here simply did not fit...and Bruce could not figure out what it could be besides this city that linked each and every one of them together.

Excited by Zoe's arrival, Ace had barked contently before rushing toward her and licking her lovingly - tail wagging. It was obvious that the canine had grown accustomed to Zoe's now constant presence in the Bat Cave as well. Much more excited than he was as he stiffened and huffed at the next newcomer. Sure, Ace had grown used to Terry but he was still no Bruce or Zoe to the dog.

Looking now to Terry, Bruce nodded in acknowledgment of him. As it turned out, the new Batman was in this city as well. How strange... How, very strange... After Zoe's arrival, Wyane had had doubts that Terry would be here at all, but it was a comfort... Despite the odd aroma. "Terry, how long have you been here? I feel like I've been looking for either of you for a few days now," Bruce questioned in his usual dry tone with a hint of great relief at both of their arrivals.

Ace, though still at Zoe's side, could not help but sniff in Terry's direction before huffing. Again, this brought Bruce's attention to something.

"McGinnis...why is the bat suit so worn? You don't look like you've been in combat," Wayne questioned sharply.

((The Bat Family... together again!))

"Ace! C'mon, cut it out!" Zoe managed past having her face smooched by a very happy dog. She rubbed his ears affectionately, a bright smile on her round, childish face. She looked up at the old man with a very happy smile when he acknowledged her in the process. "I still don't know what's going on, but it's always good to find family, even in a weird place like this, right...?"

And that was when Ace stiffened and huffed. Zoe only looked startled for the briefest of moments. That was a reaction she was well used to at this point, and after a few puzzled blinks, she turned her head toward the door... and that smile turned into a face-splitting grin only the girl could possibly manage. "Terry!" She wasn't going to tackle him in her glee at seeing another person familiar to her, though. In the skirt jumper and blouse combo, it would be a bit embarrassing to be flinging herself about (how many times in the past week had she tried to talk Bruce out of making her wear this atrocious uniform...?). "But... how are we all here?"

That was when she frowned, one hand resting on Ace's shoulder as the other tugged insistantly on the hem of her skirt. That question, she realized, may not be the most pressing one. Unlike Bruce, with his analytical mind, or Terry, who reacted on the fly, she was just learning. "Survival" was her tactic of choice. "...and... where exactly is here...?"

((Aww, family hug anyone?))

Terry was a bit too distracted to realize he hadn't been attacked by the young Robin, mostly because,

A: He'd found both Bruce AND Zoe in the same place, after having been alone for nigh three days, and
B: Bruce had immediately realized one of the biggest problems Terry had on his mind: He didn't have his street clothes.

Clearing his throat and avoiding the elder man's gaze, he instead looked to the newest member of the 'family' and returned her grin with a half-smirk. "I don't know how we're here... I've been trying to figure it out, but the only thing I got out of anyone here is that no one knows. And as far as I can tell, they're all pretty decent people, more or less... So whoever or whatever it is that happened... They haven't shown themselves yet." He gave a one-shouldered shrug before glancing over towards Bruce.

"Um, about that..." He tugged his mask off, looking more thankful than usual to have it off. His hair was an absolute mess. "I've been here for way longer than I'd like to admit. The batsuit's clock says it's been about three days, but nothing's changed around here... Slag, the clouds in the sky haven't even moved... It's pretty creepy." Setting his mask down on the back of a nearby chair, he made his way over to some dried meat and took a bit of it. He turned it in his hands for a couple moments before taking a bite, looking rather guilty at Bruce's next question.

"Uh..." He swallowed, seemed to think, then shook his head, "Slag it... I lost my backpack. This is all I've had to wear for the whole time I've been here... And let me tell ya, this thing doesn't breathe very well." He made a face and sat down, waiting for what he knew was coming from Bruce. It was STUPID of him to have lost his backpack... But even that lost and found shop hadn't had it, and the dragon there was far from helpful on the matter.

((I'm toadally for the the BAT HUG....... >> Bruce won't though. He'll just hug you all from the inside. The party-pooper.))

Huffing once more, yet strangely content at having the usual members of the Bat crew around him, Ace sat between Zoe and his master contently. His cold, dark eyes moved back and forth to each person as they talked. Although he may have never understood a single word's relevance it most certainly kept him intuned to find any hints for his own orders. Now, however, he relied on his strict training in etiquette as the others talked.

With great interest, Bruce's eyes swiftly changed between the two children (well, compared to this ANCIENT dude, Terry was a child still, yes) and listened carefully to what both had to say. They were still learning - still his students - and had yet to acquire the trait of listening for precise keys in the conversation. Curious. Very curious indeed.

"I'm afraid I don't have much more to contribute to the origin of this place or our own arrival in it. I, also, have had a few encounters with some characters in this citadel. Odd characters, but mostly harmless and over all friendly," Bruce agreed with Terry. His eyes gave a grave flicker to his pupils as his hands rested heavily on his cane and he leaned forward with a knowing look to them. "However, what I do have to add is not as cheerful," Wayne began. "I watched a girl appear in this city out of the blue - like Zoe described. However...just as easily... I watched her vanish again. As for what happened to her... I don't know as much."

It didn't take long after his announcement, however, for his eyes to lock suddenly on his ward. Slightly narrowed, Bruce let out a long grunt as if tired of the same speech about Terry being cautious. "McGinnis," Wayne huffed in an agitated fashion. "The Bat Suit is not a pair of pajamas or a holiday costume you can play around in. Your secret identity should be used more skillfully than this or it could possibly become your only identity." The hallow threat, however, even caused Ace to whine and roll his head doubtfully.

((Haha Bat Hug. Zoe would try to get Bruce in on it even if he is a GRUMPY OLD MAN.))

With a sigh and a huff of her own, Zoe plunked herself down to sit on the floor next to Ace. She did sit down on her knees, at least, as she'd been taught to do when wearing a skirt as it was the proper thing for a young lady to do. She settled into listening to the two men talk instead, big, intelligent brown eyes snapping back and forth between them like a cat at a tennis match. She didn't say anything to Bruce's comment about Terry's suit, of course... she wasn't even sure the Robin Suit was here, which put her at a noticeable disadvantage should anything happen.

"People can just... can just vanish and reappear here?" she murmured, eyes growing ever-wider at the very thought of that. This certainly did not seem like the sort of place anyone would want to be stuck in for any extended periods of time! And maybe her eleven year old sense of self-preservation would distract them from a potential argument over when the Bat Suit should and shouldn't be worn. "So maybe... maybe this place is like another dimension...?"

She thought over this for a long moment, rocking back, small hands resting on skinny knees. "...Terry... you worked with the Justice League once, right? Didn't they have a teleporter? Could it be somethin' like that...?"

More wishful thinking from the youngest member of the group, but then, Zoe was reacting only as a child could think to. Robin she may have been, but that didn't make her more mature on the spot. "This is all just so weird..."

((Hahaha Bruce is a party pooper... And to think, he used to be the LIFE of all his parties! Silly recluse. <3))

"Appeared from nowhere... And just up and disappeared as fast as she'd shown up?" Terry made a face at the idea, looking more than a little worried. He didn't remember how he'd gotten here... He was just... HERE. Did that mean they could disappear at any moment too? And if that happened, would they go back to Gotham, or would it be somewhere else? Somewhere perhaps far worse than this confining city... The young man shook his head to shake those thoughts, and instead tried to focus on things going on now. If he disappeared, well, he'd have to deal with that when it came up. He hoped it wouldn't come to that.

But, at the moment, he had something else to worry about, and it was a lot more pressing than any silly disappearing. Bruce knew he'd lost his backpack... And the way the elderly man said his name, he KNEW it wasn't going to be good. Wincing slightly, he turned his blue gaze onto Mr. Wayne and gave a guilty-but-trying-to-look-innocent smile. Whew. It wasn't too bad... He'd heard that one before. Looking far more relaxed, Terry nodded. "I know, but what was I supposed to do, run around naked?" He looked a bit smug at his answer and folded his arms across the red bat symbol on his chest. "You couldn't give me enough creds to do that around these weirdos."

Then Zoe brought up an interesting idea. Another dimension? Teleportation? "Yeah, they did have a teleporter... It might be something like that, but if people just randomly disappear... There wasn't a device she stepped into. Unless this whole PLACE is a teleporter, I'd guess that idea's out." He gave a shrug and looked at Bruce, "Don't you think we should try to find out what's REALLY going on?"

((....... *hugs Ace* 8D YAAAY))

Thoughtfully, Bruce held a hand to his wrinkled chin and looked away from the group slightly. A deep hum came from the back of the former Dark Knight's throat as he turned in his chair quietly as if he had to remove himself from the group enough to think straight about all the current hypothesis about this city, their arrivals, and the mysterious departures. "We'll discuss your wardrobe some other time, McGinnis," Wayne decided - still referring to his ward by his last name as if it were supposed to be a sign of his current disapproval. "Although, you both have keen ideas, I'm not completely sure about either of them."

Now in a laying, yet constantly alert position, Ace crossed his paws and stayed beside Zoe. The ever vigilant Doberman kept his focus on his master now that he spoke.

"If you remember, I did a bit of work for the League in my own time and I was very familiar with the workings of their equipment. Although upgraded, the teleportation machines should work with the same basic principles. They are still using some Wayne-Powers equipment last I checked in any case," the eldest explained knowingly. "However, this arrival was not the sort of teleportation that I've seen of this world or a few others. She merely existed in a blink as if she had always been in the same spot and similarly she had disappeared as if she had never been there. An interesting analysis, but not quite accurate."

Clutching his cane a bit tighter as he shifted more toward them again, Wayne gave them all an interested look. "The dimension idea I've heard before from a...Doctor of sorts. He seemed astute in his analysis and I took it as correct so good job, Zoe," he comforted the youngest student. "However, even that would not completely explain why our communication technology doesn't work here. I tried several times to contact you," he looked to Terry, "but was incapable of getting through. Some other force is at hand here."

Leaning forward some more at Terry's last inquiry, the mentor slowly nodded. "I feel that the only way to find out how we got here or how we are to return to Gotham is to discover the meaning of everything else in this city. Unfortunately, unless we can repair our equipment, it could be fatal for all three of us to separate. I'd be more comfortable if you stayed with Terry, Zoe, and we decided on somewhere to meet again in an hour."

Hurray! While her suggestion may not have been correct, her observations had been at least praised, and at that, the eleven-year old bundle of Chinese-American mischief practically beamed through her long, inky black bangs. Of course, that brief feeling of accomplishment was swiftly sinking with the hopelessness their situation was dragging into place. They had no idea where they were, for certain. She had heard stories, of course. The Flash, someone who Bruce had known quite well in his heroing days, had supposedly had the ability to travel through time and space just by running fast enough. Whether or not that was true, however, was moot. None of the three of them had the capacity to move that fast, so that option was out, unless the famous Flash had come out of retirement to play a nasty practical joke... which really didn't seem like his style.

So, she just leaned up against Ace, one arm draped over the big dog's neck, her baby face growing more and more distraught with each passing moment. It was just when she had finally settled into the feeling of dread that feeling like you will never get home could bring when Bruce mentioned staying with Terry.

"But...!" Zoe protested, head jerking up, puffy pigtails bouncing. "I have to stay with Terry?!" Not that she'd ever really been allowed out on her own yet all the same. She was still only eleven, and superheroing was a big deal... and even more dangerous in the future they lived in. Really, it honestly felt like she was protesting being stuck with Terry more than anything else that followed. "And besides that, what if we get attacked? I can fight, sure, but there's only so much I can do when I don't have any sort of protection. And I don't have the Robin suit with me!" She tugged at the sleeve of her school uniform's blouse as if to make a point. "A schoolgirl uniform doesn't exactly have reinforced kevlar weave."

Terry could always tell that when Bruce got that thoughtful look on his face, he probably wasn't going to like what was coming next. Especially when his last name was being used. Slag, it wasn't like he INTENTIONALLY lost his backpack... However, he listened quietly (though there wasn't a lack of a bit of an attitude in his stance as he did so) to Bruce mention some sort of Doctor that knew about dimensions. It was odd for Bruce to believe a stranger like that... That guy must have been pretty thorough in his explanations. "Wait, you tried to contact me? I tried getting through to you, but nothing happened..." He looked at his mask for a moment before shaking his head, "You don't think that has to do with anyone we KNOW, do you? Shriek maybe? ((haha that WAS his name, yes?)) Slag... I don't like this place, not one bit..."

His face further fell when Bruce suggested he and Zoe stay together, while the older man went off on his own to do some scouting. "Aww come on, you're KIDDING me, Wayne!" He pointed at Zoe, who very much seemed to be in the same mindset. Neither wanted to be 'stuck' with each other. "She's right, you know. I'll have to keep more of an eye on her than anyone I might end up throwing punches at..." But, he stopped himself. He knew that whatever Bruce said usually went. Maybe it was that practiced glare he used, or just his old-man stubbornness. Whatever the case, it was usually fruitless to argue.

"Fine, fine... But where do you want us to go? If we don't have any contact, it won't be much use separating... Unless we go looking for a way to FIX the communication problem..." Sighing, he ran a hand through his hair before tugging his mask back on. "Alright, where do you want us to go?"

Very curious. It seemed that both his students were making very interesting suggestions and becoming more astute than what Wayne had first assumed they would be. Perhaps he was underestimating them? It wasn't too unlikely. As much as the former hero expected from the two protege he also viewed them as children, his children which he must assist. Moments like these were becoming more frequent and it was not hard to see that in a short while they possibly would no longer need him. That time was not now, however, for there were still a few kinks to work out in their observations. "Shriek's an interesting idea, McGinnis, but I don't see this world as being his style nor do I recall any hallucination-technology companies in Gotham reporting recent robberies before we all appeared here. I don't see that particular villain, or many others, as producing this sort of technology on their own," Bruce replied simply. "Of any of them Spellbinder would most likely have this sort of scheme but there seems to be no point to us being here. If you two or even myself was only a hallucination I don't think he'd allow us to think it out or even to have a moment this peaceful."

For Bruce, that was the end of that.

Ace stiffened enough to keep his and Zoe's weight up and gingerly nuzzled the girl before returning to an alert fashion and keeping watch on whoever was talking. The intelligent creature could feel anticipation for something to happen. It wasn't often that things were this calm and it was worrying the canine quite obviously.

Opposition to working together. He should have figured as much. After all this time, however, Wayne was certainly not going to give into their egos now. "I realize that you do not have the Robin suit, Zoe, which is why I decided it would be better if you went with Terry. While you might not be able to fight to full capacity as you are now, at least with him you'll be safer. If you were to run into trouble with me, I'm afraid I would not be quite as useful in battle."

Then turning and giving Terry that swift, expectant look, Wayne replied to him as well. "I've not overlooked that downfall to Zoe being with you, however, I should hope that the Batman would be able to fend for himself as well as another if and when that time arrives. Not to mention Zoe is a decent enough in regular combat. I never want to hear of her facing anyone alone while you're with her, but if she had to I would trust her to a degree."

Folding his hands in front of his furrowed brow once more, the aged vigilante hummed to himself thoughtfully and closed his eyes. Communication was one thing that Wayne highly stressed to his young team. However, being able to fix the technology was another thing. "We'd need someone very knowledgeable in technology - particular technology somewhat close to our own. If we could find that doctor again he might have a chance, could be a stretch, but possible. Then again, I might have a chance myself if we could find access to the right tools and had both communicators. I noticed a store not far from here with some people inside. That could be a good bet."

((Haha - Fuuko has tools AND Terry's stuff 8D))

Well, that settled that. Bruce was not going to back down on the idea of having his two young proteges traveling together, and at this point, Zoe knew better to argue. Maybe if she was lucky, she'd find something similar to her suit here... something she could use to help Terry better should they get into any trouble. She did give Terry a look... the sort of look little sisters gave when their big brothers were being told that they were responsible for the younger sibling's well-being while the parents were away. Not a big surprise, considering that aside from Bruce, Zoe had no family to call her own... she'd come to consider Terry the brother she'd never had.

"Y'know..." she finally murmured, rubbing the back of her head thoughtfully. "Maybe... while we're walking... we can find someone who knows what's going on, too. There's gotta be someone who does, right?"

She lifted her hand to scratch Ace's ears thoughtfully, brown eyes darkening as too many thoughts swam around in her young mind for her to effectively keep track of. It wasn't that she had trouble keeping up, of course. It was just that this was the sort of place that really got your mind going. Then... then, another thought struck her and she frowned, peering at Bruce through her hair with a worried, tense expression and a bit of a tremble rattling her small shoulders only once. "But..." she began, fretting. "Say we do find this place. And we find a way to fix our communicators, and maybe even find out what's going on around here. Say we manage all that."

Her head lowered briefly as she looked for the words she wanted. Sometimes, the young Robin was not as eloquent as she would have liked. But that couldn't be helped... and besides, no one in the Bat Family was particularly known for pointed eloquence outside of acting. Slowly, she lifted her head, focusing on Bruce again. "How will we find you?"

((Haha Fuuko has a lot of stuff. XD SO WHUT NOW? I was thinking that maybe Bruce COULD find the Doctor (or maybe Tony? I'll open that thread up for anyone...) to get some comms fixedddddddededed... And then that way our heroes here would have some easier communication... *shrugs* Dunno if you had any plans! :D))

Oh duh. Terry nearly smacked his palm against his forehead. Spellbinder would have made a lot more sense, but Bruce was right... There'd be no reason for him to do this, and then let them sit, confused. There'd be a lot more action involved with all of this, and he wouldn't have let them meet up so easily - or let all of them be lucid enough to start planning. No, this was definitely someone new.

And, the old man made a good point about their lack of a certain sidekick suit. If worse came to worst, Zoe WOULD be better off with Terry, whether or not he really wanted her tagging along in the first place. But eh, such was the way of sibling (being blood-related or not) love.

When Wayne addressed him, Terry stiffened, but didn't suppress the rather irritated look that wanted to cross his face. "Yeah, yeah, I'll take her with me. It's not like I'd just let them make a punching bag out of her. Geeze," he murmured, looking down towards Zoe. "If you DO get into a fight alone, let's make sure not to tell the big guy, alright?" He threw a thumb at the elderly once-vigilante and winked at his little sister of sorts, knowing full well Bruce had heard him.

"As for people who know what's going on... I really don't think there are too many around here. There ARE a few shady people, but it looked best not to bother them... However, they might know better than we do." The young man sighed and shook his head, arms crossed yet again over the bright red insignia on his chest, "If I didn't know better, I'd say it feels like someone's watching... waiting for something. I know it sounds stupid, but I half expect to see a big pair of eyes in the sky when I look up. It's like everyone's waiting for something BIG to happen, and we just don't know when that'll hit."

"Well, either way, we should get moving... And Zoe's right, how are we going to find you again? You wanna meet back here in a few hours?" Then again, he didn't have much faith in the clock he had in his suit - a suit which he felt like he'd been wearing WAY too long. He needed to find his backpack. "A store, huh? Zoe and I could check that out... See if anyone there knows anything. And maybe we could find some tools or something to try to fix the communicators." He paused, then added, "Or we could try and find that doctor guy, or at least someone who has more techno-experience than we do. After all, you're the one packin' the creds, Bruce." He offered up a crooked smile at that thought. "So, people-searching, is it?"

((haha so yeah, Not sure where to go with this. Sorry for the plotless-ness. D:> ))

Ignoring one of Terry's usual, off-handed comments toward Zoe as if by habit, Wayne leaned back and thought some more. Fortunately for the mentor, having a reeling mind had never been much of a problem for him and although there was much to take in, this conversation alone, the billionaire's objectives were right in view. First and foremost was correcting their current technology situation, then was discovering where they were at and why, and, finally, discussing his plans with his students.

"Hopefully, Zoe, that will be exactly what one of us runs across as we walk the streets," Bruce acknowledged her comment. Yes, it would be most helpful to find someone who knew something about this illusion-like world. If they were lucky, extremely lucky, they would find someone who knew exactly what they were doing and would be capable of returning them to Gotham. At least the latter was among the improbable.

Slowly, Ace begun to loosen his tightened muscles before leaning his head forward at Zoe's scratching. His ears remained perked in silence, however, his eyes were reading a much less enthused look toward the world around him. He was tired of moving around and a scratch on the ear is exactly what he needed. Now, Bruce's gentle rub of his head was graciously accepted, however, it was Zoe's loving scratches which had won her the dog's complete loyalty. He laid out on the ground beside her in a moment of rest.

Bruce's eyes became set on his pupils once more. Now for the matter of rejoining each other after their miniature ventures.

"A few hours sounds reassuring, McGinnis, I admit. But, to make things safe, I'll return here as soon as I find what I think I need and wait for the two of you if your bickering hasn't kept you from moving from this spot," Wayne raised a brow to both Terry and Zoe. "And yes, I would certainly recommend the store and, if you see a strangely intelligent man calling himself "the Doctor" then do not hesitate to tell him about your coms. I'm almost positive he'll help. Ace and I will check this shop I passed earlier - little run down store with some items hanging off the walls. There could be something of use there and that little . . . rabbit at the counter seemed to be looking forward to customers as it was."

((I dunno what you guys wanna do or not XD *going with flow*))

Zoe wasn't particularly intrigued about the whole idea of spending several hours wandering, unguarded, with Terry. She wasn't a bad fighter, though she lacked the overall skill of either of her teachers, and she could certainly run like no other if push came to shove... but that didn't mean she was going to like it. At the very least she wished she had some of her smoke balls with her. Those were handy in avoiding fights and usually what she relied on when things got too hairy when she patrolled the streets along-side the young Batman as the new Robin.

Bruce worried her, though. He was... well, point blank, he was old. And old meant that he couldn't necessarily hold his own as well as he might have in the old file footage she'd looked up about the original Batman. Quietly she wrapped her arms around Ace's neck, leaning against the big Doberman quietly, her eyes half closed. "I guess we really should go, then, huh?"

She gave the dog's ears one last scratch, then got to her feet, grabbing a sealed package of what looked like jerky from a shelf. After examining it, she walked over to Terry and looked up at him with those big, almond-shaped brown eyes. "We're gonna stick together... right?" A bit of paranoid nervousness on her end. She was just a child, after all.

Terry pouted at Bruce, wishing he was able to counter the shot the old man had taken at his two 'children.' But, they all knew it held a lot of truth. That, and he really wanted to do something. All this wandering around and being lost wasn't exactly on his list of choice activities. Especially when it ended up with Bruce yelling at him for over-wearing the suit, and having nothing to show for it. So, putting his hands on his hips, he turned towards Zoe, "You ready to go then, squirt? Now's as good a time as ever..." He dropped his voice to a stage whisper, knowing full well that Bruce would hear, "And the old man here wants to get rid of us, so we'd better go before getting beat by his cane."

Flashing a rebellious grin at the elderly vigilante, he took Zoe's hand and ushered her out of the building. As soon as they were out of earshot of Bruce, and well on their way through the city, he looked down at his adopted little sister and stopped walking, folding his arms across his chest. "Of COURSE we're gonna stick together, Zoe. I'd not let anything happen to ya." He smiled at her and reached down to pull a couple of things out of his belt. One was a smoke bomb, similar to what Zoe carried in her own suit, and the other was a minor explosive. "Keep ahold of these in case I can't get to you fast enough if something happens." The new Batman lightly cuffed the girl on the chin before looking down the road. If Bruce was headed to that store, then Terry would skip that all together and go searching for a way to fix their comms. "Alright... Which way looks good to you, Squirt? We need to find this Doctor guy."

Watching his students carefully for a few moments, Bruce decided he could see why they were so reluctant to break apart when they had just grouped together for the first time in a strange place, but what had to be done had to be done. And Wayne knew from experience that splitting up was the most efficient means of scouting the city. Nodding to Zoe, he replied, "The sooner we get moving, Zoe, the sooner we fix our technology problem and can be back."

Whining some, Ace nuzzled Zoe with his cold, wet nose and laid his head on her shoulder as she hugged his neck. He blinked quietly as he felt that they were going to separate and, as she scratched his head a last time, he licked her cheek and stood up with her. He remained with his master, however, and sat obediently by him.

Shaking his head at Terry's comments, Wayne waited for the two to be out of the building before he looked to Ace and smirked with a raised brow. "Someday he'll realize that I'm old but with good hearing," the aged fighter revealed to Ace who huffed in return. "That's enough of that, Ace."

Standing up and somewhat heavily relying on his cane, Wayne nodded for Ace to follow and they started down the opposite road as Batman's protege.

Though her grip on Terry's hand as they exited the building had been somewhat loose, Zoe the fact that she kept those big brown eyes on him was proof that she wasn't quite ready to be on her own just yet. The tiny Chinese girl stuck close as she could, lifting her hands when he released hers to take the smoke bomb and the small explosive... both items she was used to carrying in the utility belt of the Robin suit when she worked the streets with the Dark Knight Protege.

"Good," she stated firmly, giving a sharp nod as she tucked the items safely into the pockets of her jumper. "Okay... okay, let's go find this doctor person!" Enthusiastically, she pumped one small fist in the air, cheering something in Chinese.
